German Paper with Hannah

After a rollercoaster of papers I am astonished to announce that German wasn’t too bad! Having the oral and, by extension, 40% of the exam cleared did actually alleviate some of my anxiety when it came to the written papers, which was nice.

Leseverständnis I was fairly straightforward, which made it easier to string together answers and identify what you needed to say. The Angewandte Grammatik section was kindly arranged this year around– no grilling on the Präteritum or adjective endings, thank god.

The Ausserung was also really accommodating, especially if you picked choice B as I did; Leseverständnis II was basically a free bank of vocabulary and phrases to answer it with. On the letter, the section on the World Cup was a blessing for some and less so for others (me). I thought the last paragraph was particularly interesting. Gender splits in subjects seemed a more polarising subject of discussion than what had come in years before, and encouraged you to make firmer arguments.

Hörverständnis Teil 1 and Teil 3 were happily clear-cut, and my biggest challenge was probably assembling information for Teil 2 in a way that would net me sufficient marks. My audio also started sounding unpleasantly glitchy in Teil 4, particularly during the weather forecast– I don’t know if that was the case for all or just mine, but it made it hard to catch the numbers.

Either way, I’m pleased with how it went for me, and hopefully you’re pleased with yours! A nicely charitable paper for a subject that could have gone far trickier, I think.
